TEXT:
The Firefly Season 2 Project:
Captain Mal and the crew of Serenity need your help to stay flying.

We are looking to push the envelope of episodic television by offering Season Two of Firefly in a groundbreaking new format. Each episode (or the entire season) would be made available for purchase in Standard or Hi-Definition.

It's possible that subscribers may choose one of three playback options; monthly DVD deliveries, TV On-Demand using your cable or satellite provider, or computer viewing via Streaming Download.

It's also possible that a box set of DVD's would be available at the end of the season.

In order for our plan to be successful, we need to take stock of the browncoat recruits that support our cause. It will only take a minute, is strictly confidential, and each profile will take us one step closer to victory!

my point to posting is if you get hulu.com they have the whole season for viewing. if you like watching shows online for free, submit a request to hulu. i think mine took about a week to gain approval. otherwise, it might be on either aol or yahoo tv.

is the movie "serenity" the same? actors? i'll look it up, but i'd like a good opinion on how it ranks compared to the series.

Hello you guys!

I have been promoting our film madly - I've created
fliers to post, little 'cards' to hand out to people,
and I've sent out batches of emails in groups (I still
have lots more to send out!).

The only way we are going to win is if we ALL promote
like MAD! Below I have copied the email I sent out to
the Whaddya group - use it or change it to suit your
needs. I've attached the flier and 'cards' - you can
change them or use them as is. Please tell EVERYONE
YOU KNOW! Make sure they rate it!!! There are many
problems with the mac site - the main ones that affect
us are
1. You can't search by our movie name - it doesn't
work.
2. Using the email to a friend function on our page
sends a link that doesn't work (or it didn't last time
I checked).
3. The only thing that seems to work is searching by
our team name -
whaddyagonnadoaboutit

Thanks!

Whaddya Gonna Do About It? team entered the
Insomnia Film Festival
Turn 24 hours into a
3-minute masterpiece

The list of elements were given out at 9am EST on
October 13th, we shot at 3 locations, our visual
effects master Andrew Coggeshall was importing and
working while we set up for the next shots. I was
importing footage into Final Cut by 6pm. By 2am I had
picture-lock and I handed off to John Madden for
scoring. Dana Jae proved to be the marathan champion
by mixing and compressing at the wee hours of the
morning to get it uploaded by 9am EST on October 14th.

It was a fantastic learning experience - and we ended
up with a pretty cool little movie. AND WE NEED YOUR
HELP TO WIN!!! There were 3000 entries this year, so
competition will be tough. You can help by watching
and rating movies - the 25 entries with the highest
rating on November 9 at 12:00 a.m. EST will be
screened by industry professionals, including Barry
Sonnenfeld, James Mangold, and Nora Ephron. The
biggest hit with either the public or the pros, each
member of the team will receive a MacBook Pro with
Final Cut Studio 2, Logic Studio, and Shake! THIS
PRIZE WILL HELP US MAKE MORE MOVIES!

So... I encourage you to check it out! Please tell
all of your friends & family, too! You have to create
a Mac ID - if you have ever ordered from Mac or
iTunes, you already have one. You will also need
Quicktime Player - available for free download at Mac.

Whaddya Gonna Do About It? Productions presents...
Please watch and rate it by going to
in the search field enter our team name:

Greetings, so I am a dj and electronic music producer and I also am a rabid fan of the Firefly Verse. So anyway I recently did a dj mix of deep and tribal sounding trance and I hid lots of great firefly samples in the mix. Meaning I cut some of my favorite dialogue from the dvd’s and dropped them in my mix in funny and surprising sequences. Anyhow I was thinking that some of you firefly fans might also enjoy this mix to dance, drive, exercise, make out, or clean house to. I am not charging for the mix, its just for us fans and friends but if you would like a copy a buck or two would cover the shipping costs. Just let me know if this sounds like something you would enjoy.

The Serenity Collector's Edition DVD comes out August 21st. If you like Firefly and Serenity (and if you didn't you probably wouldn't be here), please go ahead and pre-order this right now. No, seriously -- I just did. Here's a link to it on Amazon:
http://www.amazon.com/Serenity-Collectors-Nathan-Fillion/dp/B000Q9IZ5C/

Here's why. In an interview at San Diego Comic-Con last week, Joss said "[Serenity is] a success to the studio or else we wouldn't be doing a special edition DVD. They actually admitted as much on paper, which you know studios are loathe to do, and that was actually from the theatrical. Theatrical was a disappointment, as everyone knows, but it did go into the black. Then the DVD came and they took me aside and said "We can't keep these things on the shelf. We want to do a special edition."

And a little while later in the interview, when asked about chances of a sequel, he replied "Hope for it probably rests with this DVD... [I]t's probably not being discussed in boardrooms right now, but the fact of the matter is if it makes enough money sooner or later they say 'hey, this is money!' Also there are paradigms that are much cheaper, it doesn't have to be enormous."

More of the interview here: http://www.ropeofsilicon.com/news.php?id=6846

This is clearly a pragmatic answer, but compared to his other comments of late on the potential for more adventures in the 'verse, it's an absolute ray of sunshine.

So, again. If you want to see a sequel or a return to TV, buy the new DVD when it comes out. And if you haven't bought the Firefly boxed set yet, think about getting that too:
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0000AQS0F

Firefly is a 20th Century Fox property, so buying it doesn't directly address the bottom line for Serenity (a Universal property), but it does show that there's sustained interest in this story.

This site has some more ideas about how to lobby for a sequel:
http://www.bigdamnsequel.com/

cheers,
~stuart

Both Adam and Morena have appeared in episodes of Stargate SG-1 (Adam in 2004 and Morena in 2006/2007) And fellow Firefly alumni Jewel Staite will be a series regular in the forth season of Stargate Atlantis. So the Stargate franchise apparently recognizes talent when they see it.

Morena Baccarin was also in 5 episodes of the last season of Stargate SG-1 as Adria, the high priestess of the Ori. She will continue that role in the upcoming Stargate SG-1 movie, "Stargate: The Ark of Truth." She is also going to be featured regularly in a new TV series, "Heartland."

Adam Baldwin was a regular in the series "Day Break," is filming a new movie, "Gossip Hill," and is doing voice work in cartoons and video games, including doing the voice of Superman/Clark Kent in the game Superman: Doomsday.

Serenity NewsFirefly hits the television airwaves once again, this time on the Universal HD Channel.

Starting in July the Universal HD Channel is going to start airing Firefly again on Saturday nights but that's not all. They have also created a Firefly fan forum for Browncoats to "misbehave" in.

Universal Admins are asking opinions, responding to users, posting Firefly photo galleries, and otherwise supporting these forums in what appears to be an attempt by the studio to gage the viability of possibly funding another Firefly or Serenity project.

Serenity is worth fighting for. Support Firefly and Serenity on the Universal HD Firefly Boards! http://boards.nbcuni.com/universalHD/index.php?showforum=4

Yes, fanlings, there is going to be a 2 disc 'Special Edition' released this summer. You know why? 'Cause the 1 disc 'Normal Edition' has sold so well -- so maybe a little self-back-patting is in order for you guys. Way to keep her in the air.

It's too early to be sure what the Special Edition will contain, but here are some things we're going for:

NEW KEY ART.

Cast commentary -- assuming I can get a decent number of them in one room. They're very busy people, I'm happy to say.

NEW KEY ART.

The region 4 goodies, obviously.

The Tam Sessions.

KEY NEW ART.

New Yub Yub, and Greedo shoots first. So does that kid outside the trading station, the pilot who destroyed Haven, and Kaylee. And Richard Dreyfuss goes INSIDE the mothership.

KEW RAT YEN.

An alternate ending, if you turn it off early.

Proof of the existence of a benevolent higher power -- uh, I mean, new key art.

Mice.

It gets better: it stars our favorite Captain Tightpants as Alex Tully, "a charming, rogue landscaper who is coerced into joining the race to search for his wife who had been abducted."

And better still, Amy Acker (Fred/Illyria from Angel) plays his wife, Kathryn.

And there was much rejoicing across the land! w00t!

So ... I was never a fan of either Buffy or Angel, and I never watched Firefly while it aired. Last summer though, while flying home from Chicago, I rented Serenity, and was pleasantly surprised by how much I liked it. Jump forward to December, when I finally got around to adding the four Firefly discs to my Netflix queue, add three weeks to watch them all, and BING! ... a new Firefly fan is born.

I'm sure that I'm coming into this very late, but I'm really shocked that a show of this quality got cancelled. In some ways, I'm glad that I wasn't on board from the get-go. Dealing with the cancellation as a long done deal has to be much easier than watching it vanish in the here-and-now.

I guess my one big question is the following: "Is there any indication that any network -- Sci Fi, Spike, TBS, etc. -- has any interest in resurrecting the series, and is their any hope that Joss Whedon would come back to it? I know that he's working on Wonder Woman, but dammit! ... 14 episodes and one movie just aint enough.

Glad to be here by the way.

Product Description from the website

Due to overwhelming demand, Dark Horse has created a special variant edition of the extremely popular Serenity ornament. This special release will be produced only once with no further production runs.

As Serenity fans know, there is a sequence in the film where the crew disguises Serenity as a Reaver ship. Dark Horse has taken the existing ornament, added a few sculptural details, and revised the paint application accordingly. Voila! Something special for the true fan.

Like the regular ornament, this version will have both a hanging hook and also a small pedestal base, allowing the ornament to be hung traditionally or displayed on the base on a flat surface.

Firefly, the sci-fi television series created by Buffy the Vampire Slayer creator Joss Whedon, has already seen itself adapted to the film medium with Serenity, but now it seems the property will make a much more dramatic transformation into the world of video games. According to Wired News, freeware MMO platform provider Multiverse has signed an agreement with Fox to create a massively multiplayer online roleplaying game based on the universe of the show. Wired describes the game as being "in the fashion of Star Wars Galaxies or Eve Online," which likely refers more to the game's sci-fi setting than anything else, given the huge differences between the two titles' gameplay. No developer has yet been revealed for the game; Multiverse only creates the MMO content platform on which the game will be based, and will contract out development to a separate studio. "We want to find someone who wants to do something unique and fun and interesting, not just a re-skin of World of Warcraft or Star Wars Galaxies," said Multiverse co-founder and executive producer Corey Bridges.

As is frequently the case with online games based on established properties, the Firefly MMO will not focus on the core characters of the show. "If you're doing science fiction, you have to really think it out and create an incredibly rich environment that is compelling in its own right, and worth exploring and going back to week after week. That's what Joss Whedon did with Firefly," said Bridges in regard to the challenges of creating an MMO. "This all springs from the genius that is Joss Whedon. It's rewarding beyond words to be able to hopefully be a footnote in the history of Firefly."

Multiverse is expected to make a formal announcement tomorrow. The company hopes to deliver a playable game to fans some time in 2008.

Unfortunately, due to the difficulties in providing a format which would allow everyone a place for their own timeline or specialty, along with addressing issues of security and protecting against anonymous trolling, the site turned out to be too bulky and clumsy to navigate. As a result, the costume community has stayed away in droves.

And two, how cool is it that Inara can drive her shuttle barefoot and in a robe! Now that is the ultimate in commuting or telecommuting or whatever the hell type of commuting you'd want to call it.

I'm working on a new poster design that's going to be a tribute to browncoats. It's going to have lots and lots (and lots .... and lots) of text on it. Essentially, I'm creating the design from nothing but text.

What I'd like to include is names (real and/or screennames), short browncoat-related messages ("SF Browncoats rock!"), memories ("drinking in the bar with Jewel at Flanvention"), inside jokes ("Nathan Fillion smells of turnips"), shoutouts, etc., all from browncoats. Submissions should be less than 10 words each, but feel free to submit as many as you'd like. Unless they're clearly inappropriate, or I run out of space, I'll use every submission I get.

Please e-mail your submissions to me at adam@blackmarketbeagles.com. And PLEASE feel free to pass this on.

It's an interesting bit of trivia (even Morena, also on the commentary, said she didn't know that).

Because I remembered that Zoe's first meeting with Wash was in another episode, I just made a mental note to watch for the necklace's absence the next time I watched Out of Gas. I expected to see her without it in that scene, and was ready to think, "Hey, cool."

So, whenever it was that I watched it, I saw that she had the necklace on already. Sigh. Why, oh why should I let this bother me? What, she decided after they got together that the necklace she ALREADY wore should take on the significance of the relationship?

I shouldn't care. It's just a TV show. I shouldn't even be a fan - a friend brought me into this cult by taking me to see Serenity, and now, look at what I've become. Did that bother anyone else, or am I just ill?

For the second year in a row, the critically-acclaimed SciFi Channel series led nominations, but was completely shut out once again in the seventh SyFy Genre Awards, this time playing second fiddle to a show that hasn't even been on the air for more than two years: "Firefly."

That short-lived series from Joss Whedon moved into the nominations this year because SciFi Channel broadcast previously unaired episodes from the Fox series, qualifying it for all major category nominations, and ended up walking away with five awards, including Best Series/Television.

Nathan Fillion was named Best Actor/Television, beating out runner up Matthew Fox from ABC's "Lost" 41 percent to 24 percent. Fillion's co-star, Adam Baldwin took home honors in the Best Supporting Actor/Television category, finishing ahead of another "Lost" actor, Terry O'Quinn, 43 percent to 27 percent.

Christina Hendricks, who played Saffron in the "Firefly" episodes "Trash" and "Our Mrs. Reynolds," defeated longtime SyFy Genre Awards darling Claudia Black for Best Special Guest/Television. The episode she was nominated for, "Trash," easily won Best Episode/Television, beating out its closest competitor, "Dalek" from "Doctor Who," 55 percent to 18 percent....
2005 was a dreary year for cinema. Perhaps this is why Box Office Prophets surprised many by voting an unheralded science fiction movie as the best of the year. The movie in question is Serenity. Few screenplays in recent memory combine the wit and intelligence Joss Whedon displays in this, the best sci-fi action flick since The Matrix. You, too, should love it...but how well do you know it?

Browncoat Ball - Discount Tickets!

The Browncoat Ball is less than two weeks away, and there have been a lot of new developments over the past few weeks, so I thouht I'd drop everyone a line with the latest and greatest.

DISCOUNT TICKETS!!
We have a limited number of discount tickets available on eBay, at roughly 20% below the normal price. The discount tickets are 125 for the full weekend, 80 for the Saturday ticket (which includes the boat tour and the ball), and 60 for the Saturday night ball tickets. You can find them here: http://search.ebay.com/browncoat-ball

MASSAGE, HAIR & MAKEUP
Saturday afternoon, after the boat tour, we will have an on-site masseuse as well as a hair/makeup artist at the hotel. Their services are not included in the ticket price, and they can each accommodate only a limited number of clients, but if you're looking to truly pamper yourself before the ball, we've got you covered.

SPECIAL GUESTS
The first waltz of the evening will be lead by our very special guests, William Shatner and George Lucas. Shatner will be leading, of course, and Lucas will be wearing a stunning flannel gown designed by Hasbro's merchandising department. Ok, no, not really. But we will have Firefly costume designer Shawna Trpcic and the original browncoat maker Jonathan Logan in the house. And both of them are much prettier than Shatner or Lucas, so I still think we're doing ok.

MERCHANDIZING!
No, this isn't another Lucas-sold-his-soul-to-Hasbro joke. That's been done to death. It is instead a plug for the beautiful posters, t-shirts, tote bags and coffee mug
