Firefly spotted in BSG

I hadn't seen the new BSG before but in the first episode when the Secretary is in the doctor's office, on the top left of the screen, you can make out a firefly class coming in for a landing!

Sorry if that's old news, but it was my first time. Got all excited.

Dollhouse Returns

Hey all. Don't know who's aware of this, because last I'd read it looked like Fox wasn't going to renew Dollhouse. But last night I was watching this week's So You Think You Can Dance, and there was one commercial for it. It's back on tonight at 9 on Fox. I'm a little disappointed at the lack of advertising for this. Also, Season 1 recently came out on DVD for those who need to catch up.

I had my children taken away by my ex-wife, her lawyer and the courts in 2004.

4 months ago, they came back to live with me full time.

My daughter, who is now 15, saw my signed copy of Firefly and Serenity in my bookcase, and said she loves Firefly and we should watch it together... so we've been doing that for the last week while she has been home sick from school (suspected Swine Flu - Aiya Tienah!)

Anyhoo - came time to put Serenity into the DVD player... when I discovered she has never seen the MOVIE.
It was excellent to see someone who loves the series watch it for the first time... I had to keep biting my lip not to let slip the MASSIVE SPOILERS that were inevitable...

'Oh, thats right, Inara said she was leaving the ship, and maybe Book is just not in this scene...'

Bangers & Mash, that shiniest of bands in the ‘verse, whom some of you may remember from the Browncoats’ Ball in San Francisco, plans an evening of 19th century and Neo-19th century social dances: We will dance waltzes, polkas, mazurka waltzes, schottisches, elegant country dances, rousing contradances, and haunting Celtic and Neo-Celtic reels (If you don’t know them, don’t worry: All pattern dances will be briefly taught or called at the ball!). The band will also play such perennial space travelers’ favorites as “The Blue Danube Waltz,” “The Congress of Vienna Waltz,” “Sir Roger de Coverley,” and “Inara’s Waltz Cotillion.”

Western, 19th century or neo-19th century, Civil War or Post-Civil War costume or science fiction/fantasy costume from any universe if admired, but not required, and creative blending of past and future fashions is also encouraged. Just now, Old West, Chinese, and Indian motifs are fashionable and, of course, Browncoats are extremely welcome. We don’t care what you wear, ‘long as it’s legal.

There will be a no-host bar (that means you pay for your own drinks, pardner!), soft drinks for sale for temperance folk and minors, and a complimentary light buffet of Neo-Western snacks. Given local food shortages, your potluck contributions to the buffet are appreciated.

There's a movement afoot to name the new International Space Station module node 3 "Serenity" after the most brilliant television show evah!!!

The black guy is on the USA Network show Psych (Dule Hill) and the white guy on the floor talking to him is Walsh (Alan Tudyk). Tell me I'm wrong!

Joss Whedon returning to Fox

Joss Whedon has a new show, "Dollhouse" which premieres on Fox on Friday February the 13th. Echo (Eliza Dushku of ‘Buffy’ fame) is one of the “dolls” whose mind has been erased so she can be programmed to be any number of things -- from seductress to assassin. When her memories stop being completely wiped away after missions, she begins to recall bits and pieces of her past (Sounds a little like NBC's canceled "My Own Worst Enemy" to me). Anyway, show creator Joss Whedon halted production of the big budge show to 'tweak' things, Fox changed the pilot episode (not a good sign) and the show has been slotted for Friday nights (just like 'Firefly') which is usually the kiss of death of any show. Hopefully it will be as good as 'Buffy' and 'Firefly.'

On a related note, former Firefly cast member, Nathan Fillion (Captain Malcolm 'Mal' Reynolds) will star as Rick Castle, a famous crime and horror writer, who assists the NYPD in solving crimes that mimic the plots of his books on this comedic drama series. The show premieres on ABC on Monday, March 9th. Let's hope it last longer the 'Drive' and 'Firefly.'

The third and final act goes up on Saturday, and all acts will be taken down at midnight on Sunday, so I'm tempted just to wait until Saturday after all three acts have been posted and watch them all at once.

new to this tribe. happy i looked for it. it's a shame and a half that this series is off the air, 2 episodes from completing the first season. it's not at all eye-catching as most sci-fi on tv, but it did when an emmy, and i find the character development captivating. but enough about that. i'm sure most agree. at least i hope you do.

my point to posting is if you get hulu.com they have the whole season for viewing. if you like watching shows online for free, submit a request to hulu. i think mine took about a week to gain approval. otherwise, it might be on either aol or yahoo tv.

is the movie "serenity" the same? actors? i'll look it up, but i'd like a good opinion on how it ranks compared to the series.

Watching football with my hubby, I look up JUST in time to see a familiar face flash through a montage commercial.....was that Summer Glau? After using my ever-so-handy Tivo, we rewound and paused...yes, yes it IS Summer!

She is going to be in the new Fox series Terminator: the Sarah Connor Chronicles! WOOOOHOOO! Starts in January. I hope they use this wonderfully gifted actress to her full potential (ie, give the woman some gnarly fight scenes, PLEEASE!!)

I am trying to get some hardware to make some more movies, so I entered a 24 hour fest/contest at Apple to win some laptops (fully loaded!!!). So did 3000 other people DAMMIT!!
SO Now I need to appeal to all the other Browncoats out there to help me make it to the judging round. It has a dinosaur and my head gets cut off, what more do you want in 3 minutes with only 24 hours to get it all done and in???

The list of elements were given out at 9am EST on
October 13th, we shot at 3 locations, our visual
effects master Andrew Coggeshall was importing and
working while we set up for the next shots. I was
importing footage into Final Cut by 6pm. By 2am I had
picture-lock and I handed off to John Madden for
scoring. Dana Jae proved to be the marathan champion
by mixing and compressing at the wee hours of the
morning to get it uploaded by 9am EST on October 14th.

It was a fantastic learning experience - and we ended
up with a pretty cool little movie. AND WE NEED YOUR
HELP TO WIN!!! There were 3000 entries this year, so
competition will be tough. You can help by watching
and rating movies - the 25 entries with the highest

screened by industry professionals, including Barry

Serenity mix

Greetings, so I am a dj and electronic music producer and I also am a rabid fan of the Firefly Verse. So anyway I recently did a dj mix of deep and tribal sounding trance and I hid lots of great firefly samples in the mix. Meaning I cut some of my favorite dialogue from the dvd’s and dropped them in my mix in funny and surprising sequences. Anyhow I was thinking that some of you firefly fans might also enjoy this mix to dance, drive, exercise, make out, or clean house to. I am not charging for the mix, its just for us fans and friends but if you would like a copy a buck or two would cover the shipping costs. Just let me know if this sounds like something you would enjoy.

Here's why. In an interview at San Diego Comic-Con last week, Joss said "[Serenity is] a success to the studio or else we wouldn't be doing a special edition DVD. They actually admitted as much on paper, which you know studios are loathe to do, and that was actually from the theatrical. Theatrical was a disappointment, as everyone knows, but it did go into the black. Then the DVD came and they took me aside and said "We can't keep these things on the shelf. We want to do a special edition."

And a little while later in the interview, when asked about chances of a sequel, he replied "Hope for it probably rests with this DVD... [I]t's probably not being discussed in boardrooms right now, but the fact of the matter is if it makes enough money sooner or later they say 'hey, this is money!' Also there are paradigms that are much cheaper, it doesn't have to be enormous."

This is clearly a pragmatic answer, but compared to his other comments of late on the potential for more adventures in the 'verse, it's an absolute ray of sunshine.

So, again. If you want to see a sequel or a return to TV, buy the new DVD when it comes out. And if you haven't bought the Firefly boxed set yet, think about getting that too:

Firefly is a 20th Century Fox property, so buying it doesn't directly address the bottom line for Serenity (a Universal property), but it does show that there's sustained interest in this story.

Morena Baccarin and Adam Baldwin

Firefly actors Morena Baccarin (Inara) and Adam Baldwin (Jayne Cobb) star in the made for Sci-Fi channel movie, "Sands of Oblivion." It is nice to see these two Firefly/Serenity stars working together again.

Both Adam and Morena have appeared in episodes of Stargate SG-1 (Adam in 2004 and Morena in 2006/2007) And fellow Firefly alumni Jewel Staite will be a series regular in the forth season of Stargate Atlantis. So the Stargate franchise apparently recognizes talent when they see it.

Morena Baccarin was also in 5 episodes of the last season of Stargate SG-1 as Adria, the high priestess of the Ori. She will continue that role in the upcoming Stargate SG-1 movie, "Stargate: The Ark of Truth." She is also going to be featured regularly in a new TV series, "Heartland."

Adam Baldwin was a regular in the series "Day Break," is filming a new movie, "Gossip Hill," and is doing voice work in cartoons and video games, including doing the voice of Superman/Clark Kent in the game Superman: Doomsday.

Serenity NewsFirefly hits the television airwaves once again, this time on the Universal HD Channel.

Starting in July the Universal HD Channel is going to start airing Firefly again on Saturday nights but that's not all. They have also created a Firefly fan forum for Browncoats to "misbehave" in.

Universal Admins are asking opinions, responding to users, posting Firefly photo galleries, and otherwise supporting these forums in what appears to be an attempt by the studio to gage the viability of possibly funding another Firefly or Serenity project.

Jewel Staite on Stargate Atlantis

Jewel Staite, our miss Kaylee Frye from Firefly, will have a recurring role on another Sci-Fi series, Stargate Atlantis. She appeared in a season two episode, Instinct, as a young Wraith. She returned to Atlantis as Dr. Jennifer Keller, the new head of medician, on the season 3 finally, First Stike. She will made at least 5 more appearances as Dr. Keller during Season 4 of Atlantis.

Yes, fanlings, there is going to be a 2 disc 'Special Edition' released this summer. You know why? 'Cause the 1 disc 'Normal Edition' has sold so well -- so maybe a little self-back-patting is in order for you guys. Way to keep her in the air.

It's too early to be sure what the Special Edition will contain, but here are some things we're going for:

Tim Minear's new show: Drive

Hey folks, haven't seen this mentioned here yet. Tim Minear (who was co-exec producer with Joss on Firefly, producer on Angel, and writer for both -- as well as The Inside and Wonderfalls) has a new show coming up in April (or maybe May?) called Drive.

It gets better: it stars our favorite Captain Tightpants as Alex Tully, "a charming, rogue landscaper who is coerced into joining the race to search for his wife who had been abducted."

And better still, Amy Acker (Fred/Illyria from Angel) plays his wife, Kathryn.

And there was much rejoicing across the land! w00t!

Better Late than Never

So ... I was never a fan of either Buffy or Angel, and I never watched Firefly while it aired. Last summer though, while flying home from Chicago, I rented Serenity, and was pleasantly surprised by how much I liked it. Jump forward to December, when I finally got around to adding the four Firefly discs to my Netflix queue, add three weeks to watch them all, and BING! ... a new Firefly fan is born.

I'm sure that I'm coming into this very late, but I'm really shocked that a show of this quality got cancelled. In some ways, I'm glad that I wasn't on board from the get-go. Dealing with the cancellation as a long done deal has to be much easier than watching it vanish in the here-and-now.

I guess my one big question is the following: "Is there any indication that any network -- Sci Fi, Spike, TBS, etc. -- has any interest in resurrecting the series, and is their any hope that Joss Whedon would come back to it? I know that he's working on Wonder Woman, but dammit! ... 14 episodes and one movie just aint enough.

Due to overwhelming demand, Dark Horse has created a special variant edition of the extremely popular Serenity ornament. This special release will be produced only once with no further production runs.

As Serenity fans know, there is a sequence in the film where the crew disguises Serenity as a Reaver ship. Dark Horse has taken the existing ornament, added a few sculptural details, and revised the paint application accordingly. Voila! Something special for the true fan.

Like the regular ornament, this version will have both a hanging hook and also a small pedestal base, allowing the ornament to be hung traditionally or displayed on the base on a flat surface.

Multiverse is expected to make a formal announcement tomorrow. The company hopes to deliver a playable game to fans some time in 2008.

I am sooooo sad for the hundreds of Browncoats and fans that spent HUNDREDS of dollars to meet the people they love and admire...

Only to get so incredibly screwed.

I'd be totally devistated...and then I'd be angry...then I'd be sad.

I know Adam Baldwin did the right thing and showed up...and I hope that Nathan Fillion does the same...because...he just should.

I'm...just...wordless.

Everyone who got screwed out of Flanvention...you are in my thoughts tonight...sending prayers and good fortune your way.

......Seeing your great costumes has me wondering if there is a market for leather goods like those used in the show and movie. I make leather goods for medieval reenactors, and if I had a good enough photo, I could make things like belts, holsters, etc. Just curious.

So, today I noticed a couple of things I hadn't noticed before. One is that Mal kisses a cross before the battle in Serenity Valley. Small thing. But it explains his bitterness towards all things Church Like later on (as in he was hopeful and trusting before and he's cynical and bitter after). And two, how cool is it that Inara can drive her shuttle barefoot and in a robe! Now that is the ultimate in commuting or telecommuting or whatever the hell type of commuting you'd want to call it. Three, how come we never see Simon's red sun glasses ever again after he first boards the ship? I liked those. They were shiny!

nathan fillian on a skateboard

just to geek out a little. a friend of mine recently saw nathan fillian ride by her while sitting in an outdoor cafe... on a skateboard!..and while her and a friend were arguing about whether it was him or not..there he went again, back the other way. I just find this incredibly adorable and random...that he not only rides a skateboard..but that he uses it as a mode of actual transportation...(although I keep imagining him in his malcolm costume riding it)....so I felt the need to share.

Costumes

Hey - I was Zoe for halloween (put together stuff I already had, added a toy gun, pseudo-holster and fake ponytail) at a party. No one there recognized the character, and I didn't expect anyone to. It would have been fun, though, to encounter another fan.

Still, I had fun, and I had a friend take a few shots of me in costume. I put one of them on my computer desktop. The tech guy came in today to adjust some settings, and he *immediately* knew who I was supposed to be! Validation!

Turns out both of us came in backwards - started with the movie, then got around to the TV show via DVD. Anyone else have similar stories? Costume-related or otherwise random ways you have encountered other fans?

FLANVENTION II

So is anyone going this year? Curious as to what these events are like. It's out in Cali and it's not cheap, so I probably wouldn't have gone to this even if I'd known in time (looks like tix are pretty much gone, as this is in December), but I must say I'm impressed with how many of the cast are scheduled to be there: Nathan Fillion, Alan Tudyk, Adam Baldwin, Jewel Staite and Ron Glass, along with Niska, Saffron, the undead idiot war buddy guy.

Anyone know more?

Hey all,

I'm working on a new poster design that's going to be a tribute to browncoats. It's going to have lots and lots (and lots .... and lots) of text on it. Essentially, I'm creating the design from nothing but text.

What I'd like to include is names (real and/or screennames), short browncoat-related messages ("SF Browncoats rock!"), memories ("drinking in the bar with Jewel at Flanvention"), inside jokes ("Nathan Fillion smells of turnips"), shoutouts, etc., all from browncoats. Submissions should be less than 10 words each, but feel free to submit as many as you'd like. Unless they're clearly inappropriate, or I run out of space, I'll use every submission I get.

Please e-mail your submissions to me at adam@blackmarketbeagles.com. And PLEASE feel free to pass this on.

I hope to have the poster ready in time for Flanvention, so please send me your submissions as soon as possible! And did I mention you should feel free to pass this on? :)
